2024    Author of Critical Relief: A CEO’s Guide to Transforming Hospital Culture. A book exploring customer service within healthcare corporations through the lens of the employed physician. The book provides a new paradigm for improving hospital outcomes and how to retain and grow a loyal base of physicians and patients.  

2017 Founder and CEO of Critical Relief, LLC. Critical care locum’s corporation, providing pulmonary and critical care medicine services to hospitals.

2015-17   Medical Director of Nerd Health and Wellness Center at Wyoming  Medical Center (WMC). 7000 square foot structure within the hospital’s West Tower. Presented business’ plan to investors and was able to raise  $1,300,000 in funding for the project. Chaired meetings related to vision and mission, staffing, recruitment, design and marketing.

2012-14 Fellowship in Integrative Medicine, Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, University of Arizona. I am passionate about lifestyle medicine and the concept of “health-span”. Longevity with great health is totally possible. I work with individuals and organizations in their pursuit of better health.

2009-14  Medical Director of ICU at WMC. Presented the concept of an intensivist program to the hospital board. Model was implemented successfully and was first of its kind in Wyoming. Annual budget $3 million. Report to hospital CEO. Five pulmonary/critical care specialists report to me. 14 bed multidisciplinary ICU with 40 RNs and 10 RTs. Attained quality core measures (e.g., mortality for septic shock < 30%, VAP rate less than national average) during my five years as medical director. Awarded Physician of the Year in 2012 and 2014.

2003-09     Founder and CEO of Casper Thoracic Medicine, LLC. A private practice, providing pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine services. Employed one other pulmonologist, two RNs, one receptionist and a business manager. Negotiated contracts with WMC and created polices and protocols for the corporation. Financially successful practice generating incomes well in excess of MGMA median for pulmonary and critical care medicine. Served on the WMC Medical Executive Committee during this time period.

2001-03       Assistant Professor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. Voted Teacher of the Year in 2002.

1998-01         Pulmonologist/Intensivist at Upper Valley Medical Center (UVMC). Helped develop and implement UVMC’s first Hospitalist program.

1995-98         Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship (USA).

1992-95         Residency in Internal Medicine (USA).

1991                Internship (South Africa).

1985-90          Medical School (MBChB) (University of Cape Town Medical School, South Africa). Recipient of the Dwane Martin Memorial Scholarship for student  leadership. Class President. President of the Debating Society at the University of Cape Town. Started the Medical School Debate between the University of CapeTown and the University of Stellenbosch.

1982-84          Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) (University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa). First in my class in Psychology III. Member of the university running team. PB for marathon was 2hrs 48mins.
